4 steps to help you invest in yourself the right way!

This is how you Invest in Yourself in Four Easy Steps

Nowadays, we hear ‘invest’ and various other similar terms constantly. So much so, the word is automatically linked to employees and more efficient techniques within manufacturing, and everything business-related. However, there is one place that the term is rarely used – on ourselves. At some point, we all reach a stage where we just need to invest in ourselves, but it can be hard knowing where to start.Today, we have four easy steps that you can complete to invest in yourself for a brighter future.

Create a List – To start, you have to sit yourself down with a pen and paper and write down all the goals you want to achieve. Whether they are huge life ambitions or small targets you have in life. For example, you might want to write a book, reach a certain weight, learn how to play an instrument, learn a second language, or anything that requires skills developed over time. Although this might sound crazy at first, we want you to write down 30+ things. Don’t worry you won’t be able to stop once you get going.

When writing, keep them in three categories where one you need skills to complete, one you can do immediately, and the last you need a little time to complete. By doing this, you are finding your true desires as long as you remember to take your time and take breaks.

Create a Chart – As you can see, this is all about letting your creative juices flow with hopes that your mind will do the same. Here, we want you to be honest about your skills. At first, this will not feel natural, but it will be a good experience to learn what skills we have and what skills we lack. In order to achieve some of the goals on your list, you may need to learn some new skills, and there is nothing wrong with this. Here, try and utilize a chart or table of some sort including what research you need to do for the skills, what courses may help you, etc. At the end of it all, you should be left with columns for research, action, and then progress.

Take Action – Hopefully, you will feel motivated at this point, and you will want to get started on your list. As soon as you get that first tick on the table, you will feel great, and the motivation should then keep coming. If you followed our tips in the first step, you should have some goals that can be done straight away so get a couple of these ticked off as soon as possible. Once the ticks keep coming, the list will become less intimidating by the day. If you leave the chart with no ticks whatsoever, it will look daunting, and you will eventually give up.

Don’t Forget Long-Term Goals – Whenever you get some spare time, you can then start working towards the goals that will take a little longer. Over time, try to remove procrastination and work on your list if you have nothing better to do. As long as you do this, and remember to keep ticking the short-term goals, you will keep making progress.

There we have it, four fantastic steps to achieve 30+ goals and continually invest in yourself for years to come. If your list changes, this is absolutely fine. Also, even just four ticks a year is fine because this means 25 years of successful progression!

Overcoming Failure

So you failed, and you feel like shit, now what? Follow these 10 steps below.

iwontlose.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/failure-300×199.jpg” alt=”Failure” width=”344″ height=”228″ />

In life, some things are simply inevitable, and we, therefore, plan for them accordingly. However, there is something that is almost guaranteed to happen yet we fail to plan – failure. Whether it is professionally or personally, failure is just a fact of life, so we have some fantastic tips to guide you through the process and come out the other side bigger and better than ever before.

Step 1: Feel – If you have failed, the first step is to allow yourself to feel what is happening. If you are sad and disappointed, that’s fine! Feel these emotions but do not hold onto these feelings. It will only make you feel worse! Therefore, you should notice any emotion and process your feelings before moving forward.

Step 2: Accept – Next, you have to accept whatever it was that happened. If you continue blaming yourself or others, you are holding on when you really should be letting go. If necessary, grab some paper and write down what happened using only facts without blame. Once you do this, you can start to accept that it is in the past and nothing you can do will change that fact.

Step 3: Positive Reframing – Even within failure, there are positives to be found so spend some time assessing what the positives might be. Instead of saying ‘I have failed at finishing this task,’ say something like ‘I have spent a little longer on this task than expected.’ Of course, you should never underplay mistakes, but you need to look for the best in every situation.

Step 4: Recognize Negative Thoughts – Whether it is name-calling or beating yourself up, you need to identify when negative thoughts occur to then question them. Suddenly, you can start to dispute the negative claims and overhaul your mindset.

Step 5: Stop Replaying – As mentioned earlier, there is no way of going back and changing the past so stop thinking about what happened. When you always replay situations, this is called ‘rumination, ’ and it prevents us from moving forward.

Step 6: Find the Cause – Once you complete the above, you can start to bounce back, and this begins with identifying the cause. If it could have been prevented, think about what you will do differently next time. As long as you grow from it, failure can actually be incredibly useful.

Step 7: Set Goals – What do you want to happen next? If you lost your job, how are you going to proceed from here? As long as you make these goals achievable, there is no reason why you can’t use the opportunity of losing your job to move into your dream career path finally. If possible, talk with others to create viable goals.

Step 8: Mental Contrasting – When envisioning all the success that will come, we often get blindsided which is why mental contrasting is important. Instead of just focusing on the perfect life, you also need to envision potential obstacles because then you can plan and appreciate how difficult the journey may be.

Step 9: Assess Your Approach – Now you have made mistakes, you know what you need to avoid the next time. Thomas Edison, creator, and inventor of the lightbulb, once said ‘I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work’. If you can adopt this mindset, you won’t go far wrong.

Step 10: Keep Going – With a new goal and plan in place, you can try again and move towards your goal. Ultimately, life is a learning process because no person is born knowing everything. If you want to be the best, you have to learn at every opportunity!

The Importance of Negative Life Lessons

Let’s start this with a question – when you look at the people at the top of your desired field, do you think that they have ever been through negative experiences? All things considered, this could be a failure, mistakes, and just negative issues that affected their development. Of course, the answer to this is ‘yes’ because everyone has hard times. However, it is how we react and respond to these that will allow us to progress in life.

When we look for ways to grow as a person, we normally look for success and good decisions. However, as counter-intuitive as it sounds, there is something to be said for learning the negative life lessons. When we were children, our parents would tell us not to play in the street while we learned other things to avoid ourselves. Despite this, we seem to lose this as we grow older until we only focus on what we should be doing. Why is this the case?

Whether it is for our personal lives or in regards to our career, learning what we shouldn’t do is vital. Therefore, the negative life lessons provide us with opportunities in which we get to know ourselves and how to progress. In business, you have to learn not to treat employees poorly. Otherwise, they lose motivation and productivity decreases. In a relationship, yo have to learn not to cut your partner from important decisions otherwise they feel as though their opinion isn’t important. Too often, people see negative experiences as a sign that they should stop, turn around, and run in the opposite direction. Instead, they should be used as opportunities to grow and develop as a person.

 negative

In truth, we could take this a step further. Not only is it important to learn from our mistakes, but it is also valuable to learn from the mistakes of others. If you sit and watch as a friend or colleague fails in some way, you would be foolish to go out there and attempt the same thing. Regardless of the source, the people around you will provide you with opportunities to learn, so you need to snap them up whenever they arise.

So far, we have used the term ‘negative life lessons, ’ and this is because they result from negative experiences. However, a good mindset to adopt would be one that sees all life lessons as positive. When Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, the world would be changed forever, but not many people know that he actually failed many times before. In fact, he failed in his creation around 10,000 times. When questioned on this ‘failure,’ he noted that he didn’t fail 10,000 times, he simply found 10,000 ways in which the light bulb would not work. When you think about it, this is a beautiful statement, and it sums up the point we have been discussing today.

As soon as you learn to see all lessons as positive, the faster you will make progress towards your goals. Always seeing success can be great but what if you could consistently see success while knowing exactly how to avoid failure? If you put a lot of effort into something only for it to fail tremendously, take a step back and realize how good this can be. Of course, you are entitled to a few seconds of being disappointed, but then you can focus on how not to make the same mistakes in the future!

3 Simple Ways to Set Yourself Up For Success in 2017

2017

We reach that time of year again where self-assessment and reflection are at an all-time high. As we head into 2017, we start to assess our goals and decide whether we are truly happy in life or whether changes need to be made. If you choose to progress in your current industry or push towards a new career, we have three simple ways of setting yourself up for success.

Set a Plan – Of course, this time of year is synonymous with setting so-called ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ but how successful are these aims? According to a recent study, less than 10% of people feel as though they were successful with their resolution come December. To go further, only 58% of resolutions remain in place after just one month. Why is this the case?

In most cases, the failure comes because there is a real lack of planning. When deciding on your goals for 2017, you need to work out exactly how you plan to get there otherwise there is no point in the first place. Would you plan a holiday without planning how to get there? When planning, remember daily, weekly, and monthly actions you can take to progress towards your goals. However, never let planning get in the way of starting the journey.

Simplicity is Key – Rather than setting many different goals and getting confused so that, by the end of the year, no progress is made, try to set just one goal for each area of your life. In life, it is always good to have many different ambitions but you will see much better results as soon as you slow down and focus on one goal at a time.

For many, quitting smoking is one of the main goals of the year and one simple way to move towards that aim is to calculate what money is currently being spent on the habit and where that money could go if you were to quit. For example, if you have children, it could be put towards a holiday or new toys and clothes. In all areas of your goal-setting, simplicity is key and this should come together with your planning seen in the first tip. Rather than creating difficult and confusing plans, keep things simple and take one small step at a time.

Don’t Forget Balance – Having a plan and setting goals is all well and good but this doesn’t mean that we should completely forget other areas of life. In truth, balance should be one of the most important targets that you have this year because we need it for that one word we have used throughout – success.

For example, a lack of balance can be seen in many areas of life but commonly in the gym. Have you ever seen a bulky guy in the gym that creates a sense of intimidation just by walking around with huge arms, chest, and shoulders? To see whether they have correct balance, take a glance down at their legs. Sadly, many work too hard on the upper body and leave the legs behind which makes them look like a cartoon character with stick legs. Essentially, this is a brilliant metaphor for life so you need to remember all areas of life and don’t let one fall behind. If your career is going well, don’t forget to take some time to maintain your personal relationships. Every so often, take a step back and reassess to ensure that you remain on the right path.

Summary – With these three simple tips, you can set yourself up for success in 2017. Rather than setting a ‘resolution’ this month, why not set some goals and a plan to make sure that you really do succeed in 2017?

7 MORNING TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL DAY

Here are 7 daily morning routines that will set a positive tone to your day.

The world’s most successful people are early birds. They set their day for success with these practices:

Healthy Sleep – In truth, every day starts the night before, so you need to achieve at least seven hours of sleep. In life, we tend to try and eat healthily, get exercise, and develop all sorts of habits but all of this becomes harder when we don’t achieve enough sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, there are around 70 sleep disorders that affect 40 million Americans. Therefore, you need to spend some time getting to know your body and receiving help if you cannot get a good night’s rest.

Meditation – If you are religious, you can pray and if not just indulge in a short meditation session. Even if it is just 10-15 minutes, this quiet time by yourself should be focusing on gratitude for what you have as well as the desire for what you want to achieve both short- and long-term.

Physical Activity –  Even if you can’t make it to the gym in the mornings, go for a short run, walk, or workout in the garden. Once you get the heart pumping, you will improve your mood and get ready for the day ahead. Working out first thing in the morning will help kickstart your metabolism and overall energy levels.

Consume Protein – According to experts, around 30 grams of protein after waking prevents hunger spikes later in the day and keeps you full for longer. Rather than going for the toast or bagels, try and look towards eggs and meats. Even if you don’t eat dairy or meat, you will find your fix from greens, nuts, seeds, and so on.

Cold Shower – In 2007, a study revealed that cold water is better in the shower because it promotes physical and mental wellbeing. Why? According to the research, the cold water activates neuro-chemicals that improve your mood which sets you up for the day.

Get Inspired – Rather than scrolling through social media, find something that inspires you and does it in the early morning. For example, you might prefer an audiobook, a book, music, or whatever it may be. To save time, you could do this while exercising.

Review Your Vision – By now, your goals should be written down on paper, and you should read them every morning. If you read these goals and your plan in the morning, you will be less inclined to procrastinate through the day.
