HOW TO FIGHT DEPRESSION AND A LACK OF MOTIVATION!

Portrait of exhausted woman

Despite all the technology we’ve seen in recent years, there’s one thing we continue trying to understand; the human mind. Over the course of decades, we put our all into learning everything there is to know about ourselves and other people only to feel surprised when something unexpected happens.

For example, the stresses of life can sometimes get the better of us, and this leads to the death of creativity, productivity, and opportunities to meet up with loved ones and friends. If you can relate to any of this, you aren’t alone because millions feel demotivated or depressed every single day. With so many pressures in the world, there are numerous reasons one may feel depressed including financial worries, illness, work, failed relationships, or even extreme jealousy of others.

Areas of Depression and Demotivation

Unfortunately, dealing with the issue isn’t quite as easy as it sounds because demotivation and depression feed off each other and it eventually becomes a spiral of negativity. However, we have some of the very best tips below.

Professional Goals – According to a recent report, fewer than 25% of people in the world feel as though they’ve achieved professional goals. Considering our career takes up a huge part of our lives, we instantly feel like a failure when we aren’t successful in our jobs. Over time, we lose passion and energy for work, and we get stuck in an endless loop.

As simple as it sounds, you’re in charge of your life so change your job as soon as possible. Even if you start on a smaller wage, you need to be happy in life, so it makes sense to lose the job keeping you unhappy.

Societal Pressures – Every day, we try to live up to the expectations of society even though the bar seems obsessively high. If you keep dressing in a certain way, aim to earn a certain salary, or even just act in a certain way, you aren’t true to yourself. Instead, you need to be happy with who you are because the key factor that will earn the respect of others is actually self-respect.

Family Life – As well as putting you under pressure, your family are likely to compare you to ‘successful cousins’ or siblings, and this can be tough to take. Once again, you need to continue on your own path but just explain your goals to your family. If they can’t respect this, you simply rise above it and keep that self-respect.

Tips for Fighting Depression and Demotivation

Exercise – Although it’s been said millions of times, exercise really is a fantastic way to boost your physical and mental energy. By releasing endorphins, a positive feeling will spend throughout your body and mind. Often, when we say the word ‘exercise,’ people think of long hours on the treadmill, but this doesn’t have to be the case. Why don’t you find something you enjoy? For example, you could play badminton with friends or boxing to improve your stamina.

Read – As long as you choose a good book you can really sink your teeth into, reading is a great way to forget about life for a while and enter a fictional world.

Communication – Finally, talk about your feelings to other people. Although you’re probably shaking your head on this one already, you need to connect to those around you and talking about your feelings is the only way to do this. Once people see what’s happening from your perspective, they’ll be more understanding and supportive moving forward.

Remember, nobody in the world will ever have to spend as much time with you…than you. No matter what happens, you’re in charge, and you should always feel comfortable in your own skin!

Do You Feel Like a Winner? Here’s Why Most Don’t

Although it might not feel like it right now, you are the only one with enough control in your life to make a difference. If you aren’t winning right now, it normally comes from a lack of belief or control, but this is something we’re going to fix today. Below, we’ve listed eight key reasons why you aren’t winning and how to fix them!

Focusing on the Negatives – If you hold a dinner party and eight people had a great time while one didn’t enjoy themselves, which do you focus on? For most of us, we would dwell on the one person who didn’t have a good time, and this is because we tend to be perfectionists. Since this mindset can be quite damaging, we want you to start looking at the positives instead by pulling them into perspective. Sure, you might be able to learn from the negatives, but the positives should always be your motivation.

Wrong ‘Friends’ – For some reason, we get into the habit of spending time with people we don’t trust or even like. If you continue to spend time with people who bring you down, you’ll never be able to stand strong so cut them from your life. Sure, they might realize the error of their ways in the time to come but, for now, you should be surrounding yourself with people who support your journey.

Playing Poorly – If you have no goals and no purpose in life, you aren’t even playing to win. Whenever you have no plan or goals, you simply ride the waves that come your way without achieving any dreams that might be lying underneath. Why don’t you find your passion, set some goals, and really make a push for your dreams?

Lying to Yourself – If you cannot be honest with yourself, becoming a winner will be the hardest thing you’ll ever do. Instead of making excuses and blaming the circumstances, turn things in your favor and be honest with yourself. If you can account for it, you can control it.

Instant Rewards – Whenever you feel gratification for your intentions, you no longer require the gratification for completing the task, and this is a huge issue. Suddenly, you don’t put in the work because you feel as though you’ve had all that will come of it. If you want real results, you don’t need to tell the world where you go; just show them when you’re there.

Lacking the Follow Through – When you make decisions regarding your personal life or career, this is great, but you then need to see them through. If farmers decided to plant crops this year but didn’t actually work on them after planting, they would have nothing to show at the end. Although it might be hard work, you need to give your all to make your plans happen.

Subconscious – No matter how many positive thoughts you have, your subconscious slowly breaks these down with its own negative opinions. For example, you might have a dream to own a specific car. Suddenly, your subconscious says ‘I’ll never have the money.’. If your subconscious limits your dreams, you’ll never be the winner you desire.

Looking for Issues – Finally, another problem we see far too often is people looking for problems. Sadly, their mindset is so negative they wake up and look for the problems to come whether it’s the boss, broken car, or something simple like gone-off milk. Instead, you should be thinking the other way around; life is positive, and the negatives are short-lived experiences to help you grow!

Staying happy is an everyday decision. Let these 7 tips help you make that everyday decision.

indian happy iwontlose

If you were asked to name some things that make you happy, I am sure you will be able to come up with some good answers, it is easy to know what can make you happy but position yourself to enjoy the full benefits of living a happy life will take more than just knowing what can make you happy.

Creating an environment that will encourage you to feel happy at all times will not necessarily take a huge effort. We have listed out simple steps that you can adopt to make yourself happy at all times.

1) Acknowledge only the good things around you at every moment.

Starting out by being grateful for the little things that other people might not have the luxury of is the first step to being happy. You should be grateful for having a shelter and being able to wake up every morning to have the kind of breakfast you want. Many people out there do not have the luxury to make these choices.

Always look out for the good in every situation, we live in a time when we cannot entirely avoid negativity, it is all over the social media and the news, but you can control what you get exposed to. Never let the negative trends discourage you from trying to be happy at all times.

In the end, it is very simple things we could effortlessly do that determine how happy we become.

2) Engage in actions that ensure a long-term benefit.

The problem with always seeking short-term benefits is that in a short while you will need to get something else to make you happy, this is a common experience for people who seek gratification from acquiring minor material things.

One common mistake people make is taking jobs they know they will never be happy doing; this is like consciously signing an agreement to be permanently upset every day. A good way to remain happy is to love what you do for a living, so you should consider making better career choices.
If you are looking for ways to be happy, identify your gifts and find ways to use these gifts to help other people around you.

When you can realize the ways your existence on earth can be used to make other people happy, you will appreciate yourself even more despite all your imperfections.

3) Concentrate on only what is important to you.

You’ve been blessed with all you need to live a happy life, look within and find these blessings.
Many people experience frustrations because they have not clearly identified what they want in their lives. If you fall into this category, you are in luck because there are easy steps to overcome this success barrier. The first step is to think carefully about your life and make up your mind on what you want to become. You can proceed by making a list of these things and attempting to draw out a map that will lead you to achieve them.
Remember when you were little and you wanted a particular toy? This was all you thought about all day and night frequently asking your parents when you can get it until they finally bought it for you. This is the measure of dedicated focus you need to apply in achieving your goals. Don’t get distracted by the things you do not have instead, focus on getting the things you can get by following your plan.
I should state here that your plan should be realistic and achievable too, all you should do is believe it can happen and the more confident you get in achieving this goal, the easier it will be for you to make it happen.

4) Learn to put yourself first.

Contrary to what you might have previously thought, you will end up feeling worse if you always put the needs of other people before yours.
Sadly, there are a lot of selfish people out there who will use every opportunity to take from you once they find out that you never say no. Think back to the many times you have had to do things for people at your inconvenience. You will realize these people only reach out to you when they need something. This is unfair; you should learn to put yourself first.
Don’t fall victim of wasting your time to suit the needs of other people who don’t really care how you feel, you should learn to say no. This is a common situation almost everyone has had to face, and the truth is you will feel better when you say no, be brief and polite about it, and you will be surprised that the other person will understand because they know what they have asked for is actually unfair to you.

Start practicing this today, and you will feel better, don’t ever feel guilty after refusing an unfair request, you have just created more time to focus on achieving your own goals.

5) Locate role models who have achieved similar goals and become friends with them.

Knowing what other people have gone through will help you to make better plans.
In life, we practically have no influence over the family we are born into or who we work with at the office. What we can control is how much interaction we have with people who turn out to be malicious and bitter towards others. The best kind of company is people who think like you, they are ambitious and always seek ways to improve themselves and others around them. You will benefit from these people because there will be similarities in your thoughts and beliefs which is lifting up others and helping out ONLY when you can afford it. When you notice people, who behave in ways you admire, learn from them by observing how they handle issues, become friends with them too. It is also important that you should never try to be like other people, what you should focus on is learning from them and applying these skills in your own special and unique way.

Trying to become another version of a person will only be frustrating, so avoid it.

6) Learn from your mistakes and unfortunate experiences
I am yet to see a person who can boldly declare they have lived perfect lives with no mistakes, we are human and we all make mistakes. Don’t feel too bad when you are faced with adversity because it cannot be totally avoided as you forge ahead in life, what you should do is face them boldly and learn from the experience. You should also know that every situation becomes exactly the name you give it, only you can tag and experience as unfortunate or bad.
There are many possibilities that those rejections and disappointments can be a blessing in disguise. We have constantly heard of people who were previously turned down after attempts to secure jobs or contracts they thought would be great for them only for them to get even better opportunities that would have been lost if their earlier attempts had been successful.

This means you should never take rejection or adversity personally, instead believe only the best things can happen to you and keep looking ahead for what is better.

7) Always strive to give your very best only within your limits

Happy Graduate Laughing iwontloseBelieving in you means forging ahead even when the means to make it has not been clearly defined. You should have faith in your abilities, and when the time comes to prove yourself, the results will be absolutely excellent.
It is difficult to achieve happiness and success when you lay back, waiting for the perfect moment to act. There might never be a perfect moment, or it might come after you have wasted so much valuable time. It is the gradual and uncertain moves made in faith that will get you where you need to be.
The media and many other platforms have made us believe that imperfection should not be embraced, the level of perfection that is painted through these mediums can be a source of depression for people whose self-esteem get challenged by the perfect looking models seen on TV or the stories of people who became wealthy many years ago. You are distinctively who you are- unique and special people because of those imperfections that make you stand out. Doing something in a different way creates an opportunity for you to define your unique style. There are countless stories of how imperfections have been turned to assets, means through which the lives of the people changed. Dare to explore your uniqueness, never feel less confident because you don’t measure up to the seemingly perfect picture painted out there.

Always remember that being happy is ultimately dependent on your decisions. You have the power to live happily, exercise control over the situations and people you interact with by getting closer to the positive influences and avoiding all forms of negativity.

Overcoming Failure

So you failed, and you feel like shit, now what? Follow these 10 steps below.

iwontlose.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/failure-300×199.jpg” alt=”Failure” width=”344″ height=”228″ />

In life, some things are simply inevitable, and we, therefore, plan for them accordingly. However, there is something that is almost guaranteed to happen yet we fail to plan – failure. Whether it is professionally or personally, failure is just a fact of life, so we have some fantastic tips to guide you through the process and come out the other side bigger and better than ever before.

Step 1: Feel – If you have failed, the first step is to allow yourself to feel what is happening. If you are sad and disappointed, that’s fine! Feel these emotions but do not hold onto these feelings. It will only make you feel worse! Therefore, you should notice any emotion and process your feelings before moving forward.

Step 2: Accept – Next, you have to accept whatever it was that happened. If you continue blaming yourself or others, you are holding on when you really should be letting go. If necessary, grab some paper and write down what happened using only facts without blame. Once you do this, you can start to accept that it is in the past and nothing you can do will change that fact.

Step 3: Positive Reframing – Even within failure, there are positives to be found so spend some time assessing what the positives might be. Instead of saying ‘I have failed at finishing this task,’ say something like ‘I have spent a little longer on this task than expected.’ Of course, you should never underplay mistakes, but you need to look for the best in every situation.

Step 4: Recognize Negative Thoughts – Whether it is name-calling or beating yourself up, you need to identify when negative thoughts occur to then question them. Suddenly, you can start to dispute the negative claims and overhaul your mindset.

Step 5: Stop Replaying – As mentioned earlier, there is no way of going back and changing the past so stop thinking about what happened. When you always replay situations, this is called ‘rumination, ’ and it prevents us from moving forward.

Step 6: Find the Cause – Once you complete the above, you can start to bounce back, and this begins with identifying the cause. If it could have been prevented, think about what you will do differently next time. As long as you grow from it, failure can actually be incredibly useful.

Step 7: Set Goals – What do you want to happen next? If you lost your job, how are you going to proceed from here? As long as you make these goals achievable, there is no reason why you can’t use the opportunity of losing your job to move into your dream career path finally. If possible, talk with others to create viable goals.

Step 8: Mental Contrasting – When envisioning all the success that will come, we often get blindsided which is why mental contrasting is important. Instead of just focusing on the perfect life, you also need to envision potential obstacles because then you can plan and appreciate how difficult the journey may be.

Step 9: Assess Your Approach – Now you have made mistakes, you know what you need to avoid the next time. Thomas Edison, creator, and inventor of the lightbulb, once said ‘I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work’. If you can adopt this mindset, you won’t go far wrong.

Step 10: Keep Going – With a new goal and plan in place, you can try again and move towards your goal. Ultimately, life is a learning process because no person is born knowing everything. If you want to be the best, you have to learn at every opportunity!

Sitting is evil

SITTING IS EVIL

It quietly attacks the hips, your posture, lower back, neck, glutes (a.k.a. your ass), and even the back of your thighs. Sitting is evil!

Everything seems to either tighten up after a while or you just feel so stiff. Sitting is evil!

If you could just get up and move around a bit, you might at least feel better. Here’s a neat infographic put together by the team at The Health Institute on why sitting is evil.
