We reach that time of year again where self-assessment and reflection are at an all-time high. As we head into 2017, we start to assess our goals and decide whether we are truly happy in life or whether changes need to be made. If you choose to progress in your current industry or push towards a new career, we have three simple ways of setting yourself up for success.

 

Set a Plan – Of course, this time of year is synonymous with setting so-called ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ but how successful are these aims? According to a recent study, less than 10% of people feel as though they were successful with their resolution come December. To go further, only 58% of resolutions remain in place after just one month. Why is this the case?

 

In most cases, the failure comes because there is a real lack of planning. When deciding on your goals for 2017, you need to work out exactly how you plan to get there otherwise there is no point in the first place. Would you plan a holiday without planning how to get there? When planning, remember daily, weekly, and monthly actions you can take to progress towards your goals. However, never let planning get in the way of starting the journey.

 

Simplicity is Key – Rather than setting many different goals and getting confused so that, by the end of the year, no progress is made, try to set just one goal for each area of your life. In life, it is always good to have many different ambitions but you will see much better results as soon as you slow down and focus on one goal at a time.

 

For many, quitting smoking is one of the main goals of the year and one simple way to move towards that aim is to calculate what money is currently being spent on the habit and where that money could go if you were to quit. For example, if you have children, it could be put towards a holiday or new toys and clothes. In all areas of your goal-setting, simplicity is key and this should come together with your planning seen in the first tip. Rather than creating difficult and confusing plans, keep things simple and take one small step at a time.

 

Don’t Forget Balance – Having a plan and setting goals is all well and good but this doesn’t mean that we should completely forget other areas of life. In truth, balance should be one of the most important targets that you have this year because we need it for that one word we have used throughout – success.

 

For example, a lack of balance can be seen in many areas of life but commonly in the gym. Have you ever seen a bulky guy in the gym that creates a sense of intimidation just by walking around with huge arms, chest, and shoulders? To see whether they have correct balance, take a glance down at their legs. Sadly, many work too hard on the upper body and leave the legs behind which makes them look like a cartoon character with stick legs. Essentially, this is a brilliant metaphor for life so you need to remember all areas of life and don’t let one fall behind. If your career is going well, don’t forget to take some time to maintain your personal relationships. Every so often, take a step back and reassess to ensure that you remain on the right path.

 

Summary – With these three simple tips, you can set yourself up for success in 2017. Rather than setting a ‘resolution’ this month, why not set some goals and a plan to make sure that you really do succeed in 2017?

Future Comes First – At all times, you should know exactly where you want to go and how you will get there. With this in mind, you should have achievable goals that are written, specific, adjustable, realistic, and WILL come true. After you have your goals, work out the journey.

Evaluate Everything – Rather than just thinking about how something will affect you now, think about the future too. For example, the process of buying a car is the perfect example. Currently, you might consider how much you can pay each month. With the millionaire‘s mindset, you will think about the total cost over the course of its life.

Save > Spend – Firstly, and you should always look to save money first and then spend whatever is left. If you are spending all of your salary, there is no way you can ever progress. However, with just 10% saved each month, you get closer to your goal every month. Currently, you might be thinking ‘I have no money to save’ but that will soon change once you assess how much you spend on movies, coffee, clothes, eating out, etc.

debtLose Debt – By using the very definition of debt, you owe more money that you have – ultimately, this means that debt is a burden. If you ‘need’ to purchase something, wait until you have the money for it rather than buying now and creating an ever-growing debt. If you need it later, you can go ahead and buy it. More often than not, you will find that the purchase suddenly seems insignificant.

Finally, you have to believe in yourself and in your ability to achieve your goals. If you don’t believe in yourself deep down, you are already starting behind everyone that does have confidence. As long as you have a good plan and have the confidence in your own ability, there is no reason why you can’t succeed!

This is a quote that should be said and listened to far more often than it is nowadays; we all want to find success whether it is in our personal lives, in our career, in a sports team, in absolutely anything and everything that we do. However, no matter how close we get, we tend to make the mistake of choosing the quickest journey to get there.

 

Sport is a fantastic place to witness this because it is experienced every single year all around the world; for example, basketball teams that go 3-1 up in the play-offs. For some reason, once they go one game away from winning the series, they start to play differently because they are looking for the quickest route of success. This was seen just recently as the Warriors came from 3-1 down to win the series 4-3 and go through to the finals. How did they do this? They trusted their ability, they trusted their preparation and they trusted the process.

This should be taken advantage of every single day and used to get exactly what you want in your personal life as well as your career. If you have a goal for your career and you get close, don’t suddenly chase the quickest route of reaching your goal, trust the process and continue with what you have been doing. This process is clearly working so why would you risk changing it? Ultimately, it may take a bit longer but as long as you have the faith, it will happen.

 

Life is tough; there is always going to be somebody waiting around the corner ready to trip you up, there is always going to be a pitfall for you to get hurt by. As long as you put your trust in the process, you will be staying safe from these setbacks. This does require a certain personality and it can be hard to get used to because from the outside, it may look as though you aren’t making any progress but you will know that you are doing the right thing. Others will get frustrated and will become impatient which simply leads to failure.

 

This isn’t just a method that ‘could work’ or that ‘has potential’, this is proven and can help in a number of different areas of your life. People use this every single day whether they are trying to maintain a personal relationship, climb the proverbial ladder in their career, or even trying to lose weight when on a diet.

1.Procrastination has to be one of the biggest things a lot of us tend to struggle with. We have all these ideas but don’t ever take the time to write them down but most importantly get started on what you want to become in the future. The longer you wait, the longer it’ll take. Make sure you take some time out of your day even if it’s a quarter of the day, to start your craft and do what you love! Nothing is more irritating than having all these ideas, knowing you could be successful but not starting at all.

2. Negative Energy has to be the second thing on our list to remove in order to win. When we’re around negativity all the time, that doesn’t help us get closer to our craft, but farther. We need to realized a point in our life where we understand that things are not worth losing your dreams and goals and that being around negative energy all the time won’t persuade us to get where we need to be. We need to reach new heights in surrounding ourselves around positivity as hard it could be in a world full of negativity. This will be one of the ways to get going on your craft and WIN.

3. Fear is another factor that stops us from getting where we need to be. We’re so focused on thinking we’re not going to make it that we forget to realize that saying things like we’re not going to make it, then we won’t. If we say things like we are going to make it then we will, it all comes with perseverance and dedication. So many dreams are pushed under the rug because people are too scared to chase what they want because they may fail, but understand that failing comes with success and being greater. You must fail in order to experience the wave of doing good and learning to better yourself in terms of WINNING.

These are ways that can help you win, help you grow, help you stay motivated and rejuvenated for the year of 2016 but not only that, for your life. We need to stop letting things stop us from getting where we need to be and dedicate ourselves to more positive things within the future removing things that stop us from the process. In order to attain your goals you have to first imagine attaining it and living it. Living in wonder allows you to create a positive environment in your mindset where the thought of reaching your goals is possible. Embracing your imagination gives yourself permission to go out there to achieve your goals. Live your thoughts into existence!

 

2. Be Laser Focused

Being “laser” focused creates urgency within oneself to bring something into fruition, sooner, rather than later – and the idea of not doing it, or putting it off, becomes unthinkable. When something becomes such a huge part of you, it becomes very hard to detach from it because it literally gets ingrained in the networks in your brain. When you start to bring a dream alive, it becomes such a massive part of you that the fear of not making it happen grows and spreads, ramped around your mind quite effortlessly. The more you can intentionally create and be conscious of things that move you to action, the better equipped you’ll be to create the results you’re committed to.

 

3.) Stay Consistent

“Everyone claims they work hard but not everyone is consistent”.

Being consistent is all about sticking with a plan even though the results are not appearing immediately. Being consistent requires mental toughness and sometimes involves making sacrifices which  is never easy, but the more positively consistent you become, the easier sacrifices will get. The ones who never gave up are the ones who succeeded.

 

4.) Build Up Will Power

The idea of will power might be better understood by imaging a rainbow after a storm. Let’s face it, the majority of our experiences in life are not easy, especially when it comes to being successful. The struggles we are faced with during our ascend to the top can really test our determination. We may also be challenged by our own demons, which can include lack of focus or lack of long term thinking. You must earn your will power by having a strong sense of self discipline that can only get better over time. In this life, we are given the power of choice and the choices we make dictate our future, which is why will power is such an important trait to possess.

 

5.) Obtain Your Absolute Best in Health and Fitness

Your health is your #1 Investment and asset. Do your absolute best to ensure peak performance of your health, fitness, and wellness. You’re going to spend a whole lot of time in your body might as well make it a comfortable home. Here are some quick tips for optimal health performance:

– Exercise at least 5x/week for minimum 30mins.

– Eat a balanced diet that consist protein, fats, and minimal carbs.

– Aim for 7-9 hrs of sleep everyday

– Manage your stress levels by looking at the brighter side of any situation.

– Laugh as much as possible – everyday!
