If we were to ask you questions regarding your friends, you could probably answer them in an instant. However, we aren’t so good with questions about ourselves. Do you know yourself as a person? Sadly, millions of people can’t answer this question because they have been focusing on the ‘what’ rather than the ‘who’. As a prime example of this, we were asked as children ‘what’ we wanted to be when we grew up rather than ‘who’.

If you do one thing this year, find your true self because it can be a rewarding and self-fulfilling process. Today, we have seven things you should be discovering in the time ahead. Once you complete these, you can become the person you want to be.

 

 

Value targetValues – First and foremost, your personal values are perhaps most important because they explain your opinions and even your actions. What are your beliefs and do you know exactly why these factors are important for you? Over time, you should also learn just how committed you are to these beliefs and they begin to form your opinions and help to make important decisions.

 

 

Passions – If we were to ask you to list ten things you enjoy doing, we could almost guarantee that most of the activities would be with friends. Although this is great, we want you to spend some time alone and find out what you really enjoy. What activities capture your whole attention and imagination? Strengths – Along with your passions, you can also find your strengths and where your natural abilities lay. In all likelihood, you have different strengths to everyone else around you so there is no point acting like somebody else. Instead, you can find your own strengths and be your own person.

 

 

Limitations – On the flip side, we all have limitations and things that, no matter how hard we try, we just cannot get right. For some reason, we beat ourselves up for this but even the people you admire most have things at which they cannot excel; there is nobody in the world that can do everything well. As long as you know this, you can focus your energy on your strengths instead.

 

 

Tendencies – In truth, we all have tendencies whether it is to jump into ideas head first or procrastinate for a period of days and weeks. If you recognize your tendencies, you can better analyze your personality whilst pinpointing areas that could be improved. Eventually, you will know how these tendencies contribute or harm your strengths and limitations.

 

 

Goals – As mentioned at the beginning, who do you want to be when you grow older? Even if you think you’re ‘old’ now, who do you want to be in five, ten, or twenty years’ time? Remember, all goals need to be SMART; specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-related.

 

 

directionDirection – Finally, where is your direction in life and where is your true self-going to direct you in the coming years? As soon as you understand the first six factors, the direction will take care of itself. Often, we spend too long focusing on the destination when the journey itself is the most important factor. Once you choose a direction that represents YOUR happiness, you can be confident that you will enjoy the life that unfolds before you!

Seeking Success When progress is Slow

Often, we talk about how to be successful but what happens when this success is slow in the making?

When this happens, we look for ways to speed it up because we just want to see results immediately. In truth, this is because we tend to focus all our attentions on the end result rather than the process of getting there. Suddenly, we want overnight success, but these are unrealistic expectations.

Journaling and Meditation – When we strive towards success, there will be small achievements as well as little disappointments along the way. Over time, this requires integrity, stamina, and courage if you are to keep going. Sadly, we seem to focus on what isn’t working rather than what is, and this leads to constant disappointment and demotivation.

 

 

Instead, you should be looking to change your mindset to focus on what is working. To do this, we have two simple tips – meditation and journaling. With the latter, you can start each day by noting something or someone you’re grateful for and this will help to focus and realize how lucky you are. If you have many things for which you are grateful, it shows that you are definitely doing something right.

 

As mentioned, we also like mediation. At times, it gets a poor reputation, but this is only because people don’t take the time to learn what it’s all about. Essentially, the aim of meditation is to remove all judgments and thoughts because this allows the unconscious mind to take over. In this state, you can focus on your goals, enable your creative side, and ensure that you’re on the right path.

Take Action – If success is a little slow so far, you need to question the action you have been taking. In many cases, people believe that they are acting when, in truth, there is a lot more they could be doing. If you have been holding back, ask yourself why this is the case. If you decide that this is definitely the path you desire, take some risks, get out of your comfort zone, and propel yourself forward to reach your goals. Every day, write a list of tasks that will move you forward. If you don’t do them, you need accountability so tell your friends and phone them at the end of the day. As soon as you get used to doing this every day, you will be making progress.

 

Be Patient – Sometimes, success takes hard work; it takes determination; it requires risks and tremendous leaps of faith. Other times, it just requires a little patience. As long as you are doing all you can and you aren’t ending days or weeks with regret, you know that it will come in good time. If you originally wanted overnight success, this patience will be tough, but it will be worth it in the end.

 

Conclusion – Success is an interesting thing; above all else, it is subjective. What does success mean? For you, it may mean reaching the top of your industry and being a well-known figure. For others, it means having the financial security to support their family. As soon as you find your definition of success, you need to work hard, focus on what is working, and practice patience. Once you master this, success is just a matter of time.

4 steps to help you invest in yourself the right way!

Nowadays, we hear ‘invest’ and various other similar terms constantly. So much so, the word is automatically linked to employees and more efficient techniques within manufacturing, and everything business-related. However, there is one place that the term is rarely used – on ourselves. At some point, we all reach a stage where we just need to invest in ourselves, but it can be hard knowing where to start.Today, we have four easy steps that you can complete to invest in yourself for a brighter future.

 

Create a List – To start, you have to sit yourself down with a pen and paper and write down all the goals you want to achieve. Whether they are huge life ambitions or small targets you have in life. For example, you might want to write a book, reach a certain weight, learn how to play an instrument, learn a second language, or anything that requires skills developed over time. Although this might sound crazy at first, we want you to write down 30+ things. Don’t worry you won’t be able to stop once you get going.

 

When writing, keep them in three categories where one you need skills to complete, one you can do immediately, and the last you need a little time to complete. By doing this, you are finding your true desires as long as you remember to take your time and take breaks.

 

Create a Chart – As you can see, this is all about letting your creative juices flow with hopes that your mind will do the same. Here, we want you to be honest about your skills. At first, this will not feel natural, but it will be a good experience to learn what skills we have and what skills we lack. In order to achieve some of the goals on your list, you may need to learn some new skills, and there is nothing wrong with this. Here, try and utilize a chart or table of some sort including what research you need to do for the skills, what courses may help you, etc. At the end of it all, you should be left with columns for research, action, and then progress.

 

Take Action – Hopefully, you will feel motivated at this point, and you will want to get started on your list. As soon as you get that first tick on the table, you will feel great, and the motivation should then keep coming. If you followed our tips in the first step, you should have some goals that can be done straight away so get a couple of these ticked off as soon as possible. Once the ticks keep coming, the list will become less intimidating by the day. If you leave the chart with no ticks whatsoever, it will look daunting, and you will eventually give up.

 

Don’t Forget Long-Term Goals – Whenever you get some spare time, you can then start working towards the goals that will take a little longer. Over time, try to remove procrastination and work on your list if you have nothing better to do. As long as you do this, and remember to keep ticking the short-term goals, you will keep making progress.

 

There we have it, four fantastic steps to achieve 30+ goals and continually invest in yourself for years to come. If your list changes, this is absolutely fine. Also, even just four ticks a year is fine because this means 25 years of successful progression!
